Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in the browser engine in Mozilla Firefox before 19.0, Thunderbird before 17.0.3, and SeaMonkey before 2.16 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via unknown vectors.
The weakness was released 02/19/2013 by Olli Pettay, Christoph Diehl, Gary Kwong, Jesse Ruderman, Andrew McCreight, Joe Drew and Wayne Mery (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as MFSA 2013-21 as confirmed advisory (Mozilla Blog). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated with Mozilla. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-0784 since 01/02/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 64693 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (e3f0374a-7ad6-11e2-84cd-d43d7e0c7c02)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 195308 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Firefox Vulnerabilities (USN-1729-1)).
Upgrading to version 19.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
