The CFNetwork HTTPProtocol component in Apple iOS before 9 mishandles HSTS state, which allows remote attackers to bypass the Safari private-browsing protection mechanism and track users via a crafted web site.

The weakness was presented 09/16/2015 by Sam Greenhalgh (beist) as HT205212 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-5860 since 08/06/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. An issue existed in the handling of HSTS state in Safari private browsing mode. This issue was addressed through improved state handling.
