A vulnerability was found in Apple iOS up to 8.4.1 (Smartphone Operating System). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function of the component CoreCrypto. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability (Private Key). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. CoreText in Apple iOS before 9 and iTunes before 12.3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted font file.
The weakness was disclosed 09/16/2015 by John Villamil with Yahoo Pentest Team as HT205212 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-5874 since 08/06/2015. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
