A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome 24.0.1312.71 (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component SVG parameter Handler. The manipulation of the argument SVG with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. Google Chrome before 25.0.1364.97 on Windows and Linux, and before 25.0.1364.99 on Mac OS X, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (incorrect memory access) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a large number of SVG parameters.
The weakness was presented 02/21/2013 by Renata Hodovan (Alexander) with Chromium Development Community as 165432 as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared at code.google.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Google. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-0882 since 01/07/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a private exploit are known. Upgrading to version 25.0.1364.97 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
