The SMB implementation in the kernel in Apple OS X before 10.11 allows local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was disclosed 10/09/2015 by Maksymilian Arciemowicz with CXsecurity (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-5891 since 08/06/2015. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed in Python. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370192 (Apple Mac OS X v10.11 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-09-30-3)).

Upgrading to version 10.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
