A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in FFmpeg up to 1.1.2 (Multimedia Processing Software). Affected is the function doubles2str/short2str of the file libavcodec/tiff.c. The manipulation as part of a File leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The (1) doubles2str and (2) shorts2str functions in libavcodec/tiff.c in FFmpeg before 1.1.3 allow remote attackers to have an unspecified impact via a crafted TIFF image, related to an out-of-bounds array access.
The weakness was presented 02/23/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind as 1.1.3 as not defined changelog entry (Website). The advisory is available at ffmpeg.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-0874 since 01/07/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
