Integer underflow in LibreOffice before 4.4.5 and Apache OpenOffice before 4.1.2, when the configuration setting "Load printer settings with the document" is enabled, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted PrinterSetup data in an ODF document.

The weakness was presented 11/10/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at ubuntu.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-5212 since 07/01/2015. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86772 (Debian DSA-3394-1 : libreoffice - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168735 (OpenSuSE Security Update for Security LibreOffice and related (openSUSE-SU-2016:0588-1)).
