The weakness was disclosed 03/05/2013 by Mathias Krause as 2013/q1/589 as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. The public release happened without coordination with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-6138 since 12/06/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at seclists.org. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
