Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Apple iOS up to 9.1 (Smartphone Operating System). This issue affects an unknown part of the component IOKit SCSI. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 12/08/2015 by Ian Beer (j00ru) with Google Project Zero as HT205635 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-7068 since 09/16/2015. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The advisory points out:
