Details
A vulnerability was found in Apple iOS up to 9.1 (Smartphone Operating System). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component OpenGL. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
OpenGL in Apple iOS before 9.2, OS X before 10.11.2, and tvOS before 9.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted web site.
The weakness was disclosed 12/08/2015 with Apple as HT205635 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-7065 since 09/16/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The advisory points out:
Multiple memory corruption issues existed in OpenGL. These issues were addressed through improved memory handling.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 87314 (Mac OS X 10.11.x < 10.11.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context c. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124389 (Apple Mac OS X v10.11.2 and Security Update 2015-008 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-12-08-3)).
Upgrading to version 9.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
