This affects the function dissect_ppi of the file epan/dissectors/packet-ppi.c of the component PPI Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The dissect_ppi function in epan/dissectors/packet-ppi.c in the PPI dissector in Wireshark 2.0.x before 2.0.1 does not initialize a packet-header data structure, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted packet.
The weakness was published 01/04/2016 by Mateusz Jurczyk (Website). The advisory is shared at code.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-8741 since 01/03/2016.
