A vulnerability has been found in FFmpeg up to 2.8.4 (Multimedia Processing Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function asf_write_packet of the file libavformat/asfenc.c of the component MOV File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. Integer overflow in the asf_write_packet function in libavformat/asfenc.c in FFmpeg before 2.8.5 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted PTS (aka presentation timestamp) value in a .mov file.
The weakness was released 02/12/2016 by Gynvael Coldwind (j00ru) as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared at git.videolan.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-2326 since 02/11/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
