A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg up to 2.8.4 (Multimedia Processing Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function apng_encode_frame/encode_apng of the file libavcodec/pngenc.c of the component AVI File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. libavcodec/pngenc.c in FFmpeg before 2.8.5 uses incorrect line sizes in certain row calculations, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds array access) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted .avi file, related to the apng_encode_frame and encode_apng functions.
The weakness was disclosed 02/12/2016 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-2327 since 02/11/2016.
