A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft SQL Server up to 7.0 SP4 (Database Software). This issue affects an unknown part. Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (mssqlserver service halt) via a long request to TCP port 1433, possibly triggering a buffer overflow.
The bug was discovered 09/28/2004. The weakness was disclosed 09/28/2004 by Securma Massine as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-1560 since 02/20/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
