A vulnerability was found in Adobe ColdFusion 9.0/9.0.1/9.0.2/10.0 (Programming Language Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file administrator/mail/download.cfm. The weakness was presented 05/07/2013 with HTP as APSA13-03 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at adobe.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-3336 since 05/06/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed by HTP and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at packetstormsecurity.com. It is declared as attacked. By approaching the search of inurl:administrator/mail/download.cfm it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66404 (Adobe ColdFusion Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSA13-03)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12681 (Adobe ColdFusion Information Disclosure Vulnerability (APSA13-03, APSB13-13)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published 1 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 10146.
