A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome 20.0.1132.57 (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function JP2 Decoding of the component PDF Viewer. Multiple integer overflows in the PDF functionality in Google Chrome before 21.0.1180.57 on Mac OS X and Linux, and before 21.0.1180.60 on Windows and Chrome Frame, allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted document.
The weakness was shared 07/31/2012 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind (Trev) with Google Security Team as not defined mailinglist post (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at srware.net. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-2851 since 05/19/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
