Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in PHP up to 5.5.35/5.6.21 (Programming Language Software). Affected by this vulnerability is the function php_escape_html_entities_ex of the file ext/standard/html.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Integer overflow in the php_escape_html_entities_ex function in ext/standard/html.c in PHP before 5.5.36 and 5.6.x before 5.6.22 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact by triggering a large output string from a FILTER_SANITIZE_FULL_SPECIAL_CHARS filter_var call. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2016-5094.
The weakness was presented 08/07/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared at php.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-5095 since 05/26/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
