A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in GD Graphics Library up to 2.2.2 (Image Processing Software). Affected is the function gdImageCropThreshold of the file gd_crop.c. The gdImageCropThreshold function in gd_crop.c in the GD Graphics Library (aka libgd) before 2.2.3, as used in PHP before 7.0.9, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via an invalid color index.
The weakness was disclosed 08/07/2016 by Salvatore Bonaccorso (Website). The advisory is available at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-6128 since 06/29/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 2.2.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
