A vulnerability has been found in OpenSSL 1.0.1/1.0.2 (Network Encryption Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function TS_OBJ_print_bio. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability.
The weakness was presented 09/22/2016 by Shi Lei as 20160922.txt as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at openssl.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-2180 since 01/29/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
