A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in OpenSSL 1.1.0 (Network Encryption Software). Affected by this vulnerability is the function tls_get_message_header. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. As an impact it is known to affect availability.
The weakness was shared 09/22/2016 by Shi Lei with Qihoo 360 as 20160922.txt as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at openssl.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-6307 since 07/26/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
