X.org libXi before 1.7.7 allows remote X servers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via vectors involving length fields.
The weakness was disclosed 10/05/2016 by Tobias Stoeckmann with OpenBSD (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with X.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-7946 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 900049 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
