A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 21.0 (Web Browser). Affected is an unknown function of the component getUserMedia. The getUserMedia permission implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 22.0 references the URL of a top-level document instead of the URL of a specific page, which makes it easier for remote attackers to trick users into permitting camera or microphone access via a crafted web site that uses IFRAME elements.
The weakness was disclosed 06/25/2013 by Matt Wobensmith as MFSA 2013-60 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-1698 since 02/13/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66999 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (b3fcb387-de4b-11e2-b1c6-0025905a4771)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166425 (OpenSuSE Security Update for Mozilla Firefox (openSUSE-SU-2013:1142-1)).
Upgrading to version 22.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
