Mozilla Firefox before 22.0 does not properly implement certain DocShell inheritance behavior for the sandbox attribute of an IFRAME element, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via a FRAME element within an IFRAME element.
The weakness was published 06/25/2013 by Bob Owen (Paul) as MFSA 2013-57 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated with Mozilla. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-1695 since 02/13/2013. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66999 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (b3fcb387-de4b-11e2-b1c6-0025905a4771)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Upgrading to version 22.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
