A vulnerability was found in Barracuda SSL VPN 680Vx 2.3.3.193 (Network Encryption Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown functionality of the file editAccount.do of the component Parameter Handler. The manipulation of the argument selectedRoles/propertyItem[1].value/propertyItem[6].value with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. The bug was discovered 03/05/2013. The weakness was disclosed 07/01/2013 by Gjoko Krstic (LiquidWorm) with Zero Science Lab as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at zeroscience.mk. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
A public exploit has been developed by LiquidWorm (LiquidWorm) and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 95 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
Upgrading to version 2.3.3.216 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
