A vulnerability was found in Exponent CMS (Content Management System) (unknown version). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function getUserByName of the file /framework/modules/users/models/user.php. The manipulation of the argument author with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability (Blind). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
SQL injection vulnerability in framework/modules/blog/controllers/blogController.php in Exponent CMS 2.3.9 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the author parameter.
The weakness was presented 11/02/2016 by Obfuscator as Disclose [10 * cve] in Exponent CMS as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-7781. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com.
