Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Exponent CMS (Content Management System) (affected version unknown). Affected by this vulnerability is the function getSection of the file framework/core/subsystems/expRouter.php. The manipulation of the argument section with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. SQL injection vulnerability in the getSection function in framework/core/subsystems/expRouter.php in Exponent CMS 2.3.9 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the section parameter.
The weakness was released 11/02/2016 by Obfuscator as Disclose [10 * cve] in Exponent CMS as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-7784. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at exponentcms.lighthouseapp.com.
