A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome (Web Browser) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function Element::setAttributeNode of the file dom/Element.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. Use-after-free vulnerability in the DOM implementation in Google Chrome before 28.0.1500.95 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors related to improper tracking of which document owns an Attr object.
The weakness was presented 06/24/2013 (Website). The advisory is available at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-2884 since 04/11/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Upgrading to version 28.0.1500.95 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at trac.webkit.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published 2 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
