A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in FFmpeg up to 1.2.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). This vulnerability affects the function xchg_mb_border of the file libavcodec/h264.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a array index vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-129. The product uses untrusted input when calculating or using an array index, but the product does not validate or incorrectly validates the index to ensure the index references a valid position within the array. As an impact it is known to affect availability.
The weakness was published 07/02/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as h264: move 444 border xchg under if (deblock_top) as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. The vendor was not involved in the coordination of the public release. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
