A vulnerability was found in Xen 4.4.x/4.5.x/4.6.x/4.7.x (Virtualization Software). It has been rated as problematic. The x86 segment base write emulation functionality in Xen 4.4.x through 4.7.x allows local x86 PV guest OS administrators to cause a denial of service (host crash) by leveraging lack of canonical address checks.
The bug was discovered 11/22/2016. The weakness was released 11/22/2016 by Andrew Cooper with Citrix as XSA-193 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is available at xenbits.xen.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-9385 since 11/17/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
