The vmxnet3_complete_packet function in hw/net/vmxnet3.c in QEMU (aka Quick Emulator) allows local guest OS administrators to obtain sensitive host memory information by leveraging failure to initialize the txcq_descr object.

The bug was discovered 12/09/2016. The weakness was released 12/10/2016 by Li Qiang with 360.cn Inc. (Website). The advisory is shared at git.qemu.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-6836 since 08/17/2016. An attack has to be approached locally. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication.
