A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in KMail (Mail Client Software) (the affected version is unknown). This affects an unknown code of the component Plaintext Viewer. Through a malicious URL that contained a quote character it was possible to inject HTML code in KMail's plaintext viewer. Due to the parser used on the URL it was not possible to include the equal sign (=) or a space into the injected HTML, which greatly reduces the available HTML functionality. Although it is possible to include an HTML comment indicator to hide content.

The bug was discovered 12/23/2016. The weakness was published 12/23/2016 by Albert Astals Cid (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-7966 since 09/09/2016. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
