A vulnerability was found in KMail (Mail Client Software) (version now known) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component QWebEngine Viewer. KMail since version 5.3.0 used a QWebEngine based viewer that had JavaScript enabled. HTML Mail contents were not sanitized for JavaScript and included code was executed.
The bug was discovered 12/23/2016. The weakness was disclosed 12/23/2016 by Albert Astals Cid (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-7968 since 09/09/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
