A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in GraphicsMagick up to 1.3.25 (Image Processing Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component WPG Format Reader. The WPG format reader in GraphicsMagick 1.3.25 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and crash) via vectors related to a ReferenceBlob and a NULL pointer.
The bug was discovered 10/10/2016. The weakness was presented 01/18/2017 by Moshe Kaplan (Website). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-7997 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 59 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
