The bug was discovered 09/14/2006. The weakness was presented 09/14/2006 by Igor Bukanov (shutdown) with Martijn Wargers as Bug 348532 as confirmed changelog entry (Website). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Mozilla. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-4571 since 09/06/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 22424 (CentOS 4 : firefox (CESA-2006:0675)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
