Details
A vulnerability was found in GraphicsMagick 1.3.23 (Image Processing Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function GetTransformTokens of the file magick/render.c of the component SVG File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple buffer overflows in GraphicsMagick 1.3.23 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted SVG file, related to the (1) TracePoint function in magick/render.c, (2) GetToken function in magick/utility.c, and (3) GetTransformTokens function in coders/svg.c.
The bug was discovered 02/11/2016. The weakness was disclosed 02/03/2017 by Gustavo Grieco (Website). The advisory is available at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-2317 since 02/11/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 186 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
