CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in GraphicsMagick 1.3.24 (Image Processing Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function TIFFGetField of the file coders/tiff.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:

The TIFFGetField function in coders/tiff.c in GraphicsMagick 1.3.24 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds heap read) via a file containing an "unterminated" string.

The bug was discovered 09/18/2016. The weakness was disclosed 02/06/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-7449 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 23 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 93968 (Debian DLA-651-1 : graphicsmagick security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 169347 (OpenSuSE Security Update for GraphicsMagick (openSUSE-SU-2016:2644-1)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (93968) and SecurityFocus (BID 93074†). The entries VDB-96574, VDB-96575, VDB-96576 and VDB-96578 are pretty similar. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
