A vulnerability was found in GraphicsMagick 1.3.24 (Image Processing Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function TIFFGetField of the file coders/tiff.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The TIFFGetField function in coders/tiff.c in GraphicsMagick 1.3.24 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds heap read) via a file containing an "unterminated" string.
The bug was discovered 09/18/2016. The weakness was disclosed 02/06/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-7449 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 23 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
