The auth component in Dovecot before 2.2.27, when auth-policy is configured, allows a remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) by aborting authentication without setting a username.

The bug was discovered 02/16/2017. The weakness was disclosed 02/17/2017 by Aki Tuomi (Website). The advisory is shared for download at dovecot.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-8652 since 10/12/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
