Blink in Google Chrome prior to 56.0.2924.76 for Linux, Windows and Mac, and 56.0.2924.87 for Android, incorrectly handled the sequence of events when closing a page, which allowed a remote attacker to inject arbitrary scripts or HTML (UXSS) via a crafted HTML page.

The bug was discovered 01/25/2017. The weakness was disclosed 02/17/2017 by Armin Razmdjou (Paul) with Tresorit (Website). The advisory is shared for download at chromereleases.googleblog.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-5007 since 01/02/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 96826 (RHEL 6 : chromium-browser (RHSA-2017:0206)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
