This issue affects the function ReadVICARImage of the file coders/vicar.c of the component VICAR File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The ReadVICARImage function in coders/vicar.c in ImageMagick 6.x before 6.9.0-5 Beta allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a crafted VICAR file.
The bug was discovered 06/06/2016. The weakness was shared 02/27/2017 (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-8903 since 06/05/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
