A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Wireshark up to 2.2.4 (Packet Analyzer Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file wiretap/k12.c of the component K12 File Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.4 and 2.0.0 to 2.0.10, there is a K12 file parser crash, triggered by a malformed capture file. This was addressed in wiretap/k12.c by validating the relationships between lengths and offsets.
The bug was discovered 03/03/2017. The weakness was shared 03/04/2017 as Bug 13431 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-6473 since 03/03/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
