A vulnerability classified as critical was found in FFmpeg up to 1.2 (Multimedia Processing Software). This vulnerability affects the function svq1_skip_block/svq1_motion_inter_block/svq1_motion_inter_4v_block/ svq1_decode_delta_block/svq1_decode_frame of the file libavcodec/svq1dec.c of the component Motion Vector Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and availability.
The weakness was presented 04/17/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as svq1dec: clip motion vectors to the frame size as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.videolan.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
