A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in FFmpeg up to 1.2 (Multimedia Processing Software). This issue affects the function decode_frame_headers of the file libavcodec/indeo3.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality.

The weakness was shared 04/17/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as indeo3: switch parsing the header to bytestream2 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at git.videolan.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
