The bug was discovered 11/10/2016. The weakness was disclosed 03/23/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-9266 since 11/10/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
