The bug was discovered 03/23/2017. The weakness was disclosed 03/23/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-9389 since 11/17/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
