The jas_seq2d_create function in jas_seq.c in JasPer before 1.900.14 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure) via a crafted image file.

The bug was discovered 03/23/2017. The weakness was presented 03/23/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-9390 since 11/17/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
