A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows Server 2003/XP (Operating System) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality in the library USP10.DLL of the component Unicode Scripts Processor. The manipulation as part of a Uniscribe Font leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The weakness was released 08/13/2013 by Bob Clary with Mozilla Corporation as MS13-060 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated with Microsoft. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-3181 since 04/17/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90899 (Microsoft Windows Unicode Scripts Processor Could Remote Code Execution (MS13-060)).
Applying the patch MS13-060 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com.
