Details
A vulnerability was found in libsndfile up to 1.0.27 (Audio Processing Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function header_read of the file common.c of the component FLAC File Handler. The manipulation as part of a ID3 Tag leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In libsndfile before 1.0.28, an error in the "header_read()" function (common.c) when handling ID3 tags can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted FLAC file.
The bug was discovered 04/07/2017. The weakness was disclosed 04/07/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mega-nerd.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-7586 since 04/07/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
