A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Wireshark up to 2.0.11/2.2.5 (Packet Analyzer Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file epan/dissectors/packet-wbxml.c of the component WBXML Dissector. In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.5 and 2.0.0 to 2.0.11, the WBXML dissector could go into an infinite loop, triggered by packet injection or a malformed capture file. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-wbxml.c by adding length validation.
The bug was discovered 04/12/2017. The weakness was presented 04/12/2017 as Bug 13477 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-7702 since 04/11/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
