In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.5 and 2.0.0 to 2.0.11, the IMAP dissector could crash, triggered by packet injection or a malformed capture file. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-imap.c by calculating a line's end correctly.
The bug was discovered 04/12/2017. The weakness was shared 04/12/2017 as Bug 13466 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugs.wireshark.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-7703 since 04/11/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
