Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and 10 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted web site, aka "Internet Explorer Memory Corruption Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-3203, CVE-2013-3206, CVE-2013-3207, and CVE-2013-3209.
The issue has been introduced in 03/16/2010. The weakness was presented 09/10/2013 by Jose Antonio Vazquez Gonzalez with iDEFENSE Labs as MS13-069 as confirmed bulletin (Technet) via Zero Day Initiative (ZDI). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-3201 since 04/17/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/24/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1274 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69829 (MS13-069: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2870699)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100162 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS13-069)).
Applying the patch MS13-069 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13171.
